A bathroom installation is a big undertaking…

But it’s probably not as stressful as you might think. Let’s put it into perspective. Updating your bathroom is more hassle than painting your walls or having new carpets fitted, but it’s less hassle than an extension or loft conversion.

It’s certainly better than living with a bathroom you hate.

An average installation can take anything up to 2 weeks to complete and will cause some minor disruption to your daily routine. However, your new bathroom will last for decades to come and could well add to the value of your property, making it well worth the effort.

Talking to customers who are planning an installation, we hear the same worries, time and time again. So, to help put you at ease, we wanted to set the record straight about a few common myths.

Read on to discover the common concerns and whether you should be worried…

MYTH 1: Bathroom designs aren’t realistic – there’s a chance I’ll be left with a room I hate.

This is an understandable concern, as a bathroom isn’t something you can change with a click of your fingers! You want to love your new design for 10 years at the very least.

However, thorough planning and detailed designs will ensure you only end up with a bathroom you truly love. Your bathroom designers are there to guide you through the process, making sure you choose something that suits the space and your needs.

Once you’ve chosen a suite you love, we create 3D virtual images of the design – which are as realistic as possible. The 3D image shows you exactly what your new bathroom will look like in your home, so there’s really no room for error!

MYTH 2: My bathroom’s too small. I won’t find a suite I like to fit.

This is certainly not true. Manufacturers are well aware of the size limitations faced by many homeowners and design compact suites in response. Bathroom suites designed for cloakrooms, en-suites and smaller bathrooms are smart and slight – but just as functional.

Small bathroom suites are available in a full range of styles, meaning you don’t have to compromise on the overall look of your design. And if you’re still unsure, just ask! Your bathroom designers will be able to measure up your space to find the ideal suite to fit.

MYTH 3: I’m stuck with a layout I hate. There’s no point investing in a new bathroom.

It’s not that difficult to change a bathroom layout – all that’s required is some additional piping which can usually be boxed in and hidden. If the size of your bathroom is what’s restricting your layout, then choosing a compact suite will help free up some space and make it more practical.

MYTH 4: I’m going to be left without a working bathroom for weeks.

Most bathrooms take under 2 weeks to complete. It’s true that you will likely be left without a shower or bath for most of this time. However, effective bathroom fitters will try their best to leave you with a working toilet the majority of the time. They will keep you updated and warn you when you may be left without so you have time to make alternative arrangements.

MYTH 5: I’m keen to start a bathroom redesign project, but the costs just spiral out of control!

With a reliable bathroom installer, this won’t be the case. At BASI, we provide you with a fixed price quotation at the start of the project, breaking down exactly what the costs are.

We also carry out thorough surveys and plumbing assessments to make sure we know exactly what work needs to be carried out. And we stick to our promises! Meaning you are clear on the whole cost of your bathroom from the word go.

MYTH 6: There will be loud, messy tradespeople in my house for weeks.

You will have fitters in your home, but they won’t be messy or loud! At BASI, we employ multi-skilled fitters in order to limit the number of tradespeople in your home at one time. The same fitter will be able to take care of the plumbing, tiling, joinery etc.

All our fitters are full-time BASI employees, meaning we know and trust them. They are friendly, courteous and take extreme care in your home. They protect walls and carpets wherever necessary and tidy up at the end of each day.

MYTH 7: If something breaks or is faulty, I’ll be left in the lurch.

No, you won’t! All the bathrooms we install come with a 25-year manufacturer’s warranty on the appliances, plus a 2-year workmanship guarantee. Any issues you encounter during these times (that aren’t your fault), a BASI fitter will be on hand to respond and resolve your problem, free of charge.

MYTH 8: I’m redesigning my bathroom for accessibility, so my design choices will be limited.

This isn’t the case. You can find bathroom suites designed for accessibility in a whole range of styles, from traditional to contemporary. Features like wet rooms and walk-in showers can be customised to your personal tastes through choices on the tiling, shower surrounds and décor. A quick chat with your bathroom advisor will give you a sense of how you can put your own mark on the space.
